Neptune’s New Wave: Your Go-To For Unpretentious Seafood in Melbourne

The Rebirth of Neptune

Neptune Food & Wine, a Melbourne favourite, has gone through a transformation. Now just called Neptune, the spot is putting a spotlight on seafood. Behind this sea change are co-owners Nic Coulter from Young Hearts and Michael Parker from San Telmo and Pastuso. The duo recognised a need for an uncomplicated yet delectable seafood venue in Melbourne’s inner south.

What’s On the Menu?

Forget complex terms and over-the-top presentations. Neptune’s revised menu speaks the language of comfort. Local suppliers like Two Hands and Ash Bros are onboard to ensure top-quality offerings. Kick off your meal with Mussels Escabeche or the nostalgic ‘Fairy Bread’—toasted focaccia topped with garlic butter and salmon roe.

Beyond the Seafood

But don’t fret if your dining companion isn’t big on seafood. The menu extends its appeal with shareable dishes and a grilled section. Picture it: you’re savouring a whole fish, while your mate tackles a steak, both complemented by a spread of condiments like zhoug and horseradish cream.

Quench Your Thirst

Switching gears, let’s talk drinks. Neptune offers a wine list that leans towards sparkling, white, and orange varietals. Sake and sherry also make an appearance. The cocktail menu keeps it crisp and clean. Expect fun twists on classics like a two-sip negroni called ‘Amuse Booze’ and a Bloody Mary with a Banderilla de Boqueron garnish.

Weekend and Daily Specials

Adding to the appeal are weekend and daily specials. For example, Forever Shells Saturday serves up a three-course set menu plus unlimited shells for $60. Want to add bottomless booze? It’s an extra $45. If you prefer something lighter, catch Neptune’s Golden Hour. Enjoy select wines, Peroni beer, and classic cocktails during happy hour, available daily.

A Word from the Owners

Nic Coulter reassures long-time fans, “The crab spaghetti hasn’t gone anywhere. We aim for Neptune’s food to be as much of a drawcard as its drinks.”

So, if you’re after a spot that melds high-quality seafood with a relaxed vibe, Neptune may just be your next destination. It’s not just a place to grab a drink anymore; it’s a venue to dine, share, and enjoy. Reserve your table today.
