Abbotsford has two new stars in its culinary firmament.

The Mulberry Group has opened Molli, a neighbourhood bar and bistro, alongside its sibling deli, Little Molli. These ventures promise an all-day dining experience that caters to both casual drop-ins and dedicated foodies. With Nathan Toleman, the founder of the iconic cafe Three Bags Full, at the helm, Molli and Little Molli are set to become local favourites.

EAT: A Feast of Seasonal Delights

Molli’s kitchen, led by former Hazel head chef Aleksis Kalnins, offers a menu brimming with seasonal produce. The dishes are crafted from ingredients sourced from the Common Ground Project, the group’s regenerative farm. Expect to savour locally-sourced seafood like Alpine trout and Portarlington mussels, complemented by rooftop-grown herbs and vegetables. The Josper grill takes centre stage, delivering smoky, flavourful dishes such as Wagyu rump cap and a variety of snacking plates. Highlights include housemade nori crackers with mushroom ketchup and duck fat-fried potato rosti. Molli also features a daily specials board with a rotating selection of charcuterie, oysters, and indulgent desserts like sticky date pudding.

DRINK: Seasonal and Local Beverages

Curated by Kayla Saito, Molli’s drinks menu emphasises seasonality and local ingredients. Ferments and preserves take the spotlight, with cocktails featuring elements like lacto-fermented persimmons and rhubarb wine. The list includes seven rotating core cocktails and an equal number of zero-proof options, such as water kefir and kombucha, some served from a custom tap system. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate Andre Magneklint’s diverse selection, showcasing both familiar varietals and hidden gems like Grolleau Noir. Craft spirits and draught beers from local breweries round out the beverage offerings, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

PLAY: A Place to Relax and Enjoy

Little Molli, located next door, brings the charm of New York bodegas and European delis to Abbotsford. Open until 5pm daily, it serves Square One Coffee, Backhaus Bakery pastries, and a variety of deli sandwiches and charcuterie. The space is designed for casual dining, with a lightbox menu featuring breakfast roti rolls, fresh focaccia, and ciabatta sandwiches. Guests can also enjoy an outdoor dining area, perfect for a relaxed meal on a sunny day. Little Molli’s aperitivo sessions offer mini martinis and wines, paired with tinned fish, olives, and charcuterie.

The Heart of Abbotsford

Molli and Little Molli are more than just dining spots; they are community hubs designed to feel like home. The interiors, crafted by Ana Ćalić McLean of In Addition Studio, blend new, antique, and upcycled furnishings to create a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. Molli also supports the Common Ground Project by donating 10% of gross profits to the farm. This initiative underscores their commitment to social advocacy and community support. With a variety of event spaces, including a private dining room and a rooftop area with stunning views, Molli is poised to become a go-to venue for both casual and special occasions.
