Drop everything: Melbourne is getting their very own Mary’s Burgers

Prepare to loosen your waistband for the grand opening.

After years of waiting and hoping, it’s finally happening. Sydney’s wild child, Mary’s Burgers, are set to open up their first store in Victoria early January 2020. After bringing their signature burgers to Melbourne earlier this year for the Fancy Free pop-up and Download Festival, locals were left wanting more of the Mary’s experience.

Located on Franklin Street in the CBD, the shopfront is only a breezy 10 mins walk from the tram stop. On the menu are the usual fat delights from Mary’s including the Mary’s Burger, Cheeseburger, Mushroom Burger, Fried Chook and the Mash N Gravy. Plant based lovers you aren’t left out either because the burger joint is also bringing an epic vegan menu with them, having first launched in May this year in their Sydney stores. However in true Mary’s style, the Franklin Street shop will feature a couple of special menu items only available in Melbourne.

Mary’s Co-Founder, Jake Smyth, takes pride in the local produce used. “All our beef comes from the world-class O’Connor Grass-fed out of Gippsland and our free-range chooks from Bannockburn. Add to this our love for the plonk makers and we have been slinging Victorian gear for bloody ages.” Smyth also makes note on the wine list, adding that the drinks menu is typical Mary’s – a little wild, a bit weird, but specifically chosen to crush thirsts and soothe aching hearts.

Apart from the mouth watering burgers, Mary’s is also known for its unique venue design and atmosphere. Entry to Franklin Street is through a small laneway, but don’t let size deceive you. This will be the biggest Mary’s Burgers venue yet with over 140 seats and a Mezzanine that seats up to 60. One of the most extraordinary design pieces features a custom made iron chandelier with over 24,000 dried rose stems suspended from the arms.

On the design, Mary’s Group Creative Director, Leyla Muratovic says it’s “the traditional Mary’s…a visual punch in the face when you walk through. 1800 wide custom wrought iron chandelier surrounded by 24,000 roses. It’s epic, beautiful and raw in a Mary’s kind of way”
