In celebration of World Chocolate Day, Koko Black, the renowned Australian chocolatier, has teamed up with Melbourne’s beloved pastry shop, Tarts Anon.
Founded by Gareth Whitton, the first winner of Channel 10’s Dessert Masters, Tarts Anon has captured the hearts of dessert enthusiasts. Together, they have crafted a limited-edition dessert: the Chocolate Leatherwood Honey Tart.
A Masterpiece of Chocolate and Honey
This decadent creation showcases the collaborative effort between Gareth Whitton and Koko Black’s Head Chocolatier, Remco Brigou. The tart features seven sumptuous layers, starting with Tarts Anon’s signature chocolate-infused shortcrust pastry. Meticulously layered with leatherwood honey caramel, moist peperkoek sponge, and rich dark chocolate custard, each bite is a delight. The crowning glory is a silky honey and milk chocolate cremeux, topped with a mirror-like chocolate glaze adorned with gold cocoa nibs. Beneath this glossy surface lies a delightful chocolate surprise, adding an extra touch of indulgence.
A Weekend-Long Chocolate Festivity
World Chocolate Day falls on Sunday, July 7th this year. However, Koko Black will extend the celebrations throughout the weekend, from Friday, July 5th to Sunday, July 7th. The exclusive tart will be available at selected Koko Black stores in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as at both Tarts Anon locations in Melbourne.
Sydney’s Sweet Surprise
For the first time, Sydneysiders will have the chance to experience Tarts Anon through a pop-up at Koko Black’s Queen Victoria Building (QVB) store. The pop-up will feature the limited-edition tart, offering Sydney locals a unique taste of this collaboration. Dessert enthusiasts can also look forward to meeting Gareth Whitton during the weekend.
Reflections from the Creators
Gareth Whitton expressed his excitement about the collaboration: “The Chocolate Leatherwood Honey Tart is a unique creation. With its seven layers of chocolate, honey, and our signature pastry, it’s unlike anything we’ve made before. Bringing our beloved tarts to Sydney for a one-off pop-up at Koko Black’s QVB store is a dream come true. We can’t wait to share this incredible flavour combination with Sydney’s foodies.”
Remco Brigou of Koko Black shared his enthusiasm: “Partnering with Tarts Anon to celebrate our favourite day of the year is thrilling. The Chocolate Leatherwood Honey Tart, inspired by our Tasmanian Leatherwood Honeycomb chocolate, embodies distinct Australian flavours. We look forward to sharing this tart with everyone during the weekend festivities.”
