Good Times Milk Bar, Bentleigh

Let the good times roll this summer with the launch of Good Times Milk Bar’s new dog friendly court yard!

The milkshakes are bringing all the good boys to the yard at Good Times Milk Bar this summer. The newly launched, dog friendly courtyard will guarantee you make the most of the sunshine this silly season, with your best four legged mate in tow.

A breakfast and brunch hot spot for Southsiders since it opened in March, Good Times Milk Bar serves up classic burgers and shakes – and plenty more – in a highly Instagrammable California-cool inspired venue. The spacious venue has plenty of seating – and plenty of nostalgic value. Think stripy pastel straws and red fries baskets and you’re on the right track.

And it’s no wonder the nostalgia is strong at Good Times Milk Bar: it’s housed in the same space that formerly hosted the iconic Tuckertorium for decades. Though the 10¢ bags of lollies may be a thing of the past, the milk bar spirit is strong at Good Times. Golden Gaytime thick shakes, piled high with crumbly goodness and served in an old school tall glass, are a childhood-favourite-turned-up-to-eleven fave. Good Times are also bringing back the potato gem, and I’m here for it.

Good Times Milk Bar isn’t all gastronomic reminiscences, though. Their menu ticks all the Melbourne boxes with plenty of modern classics, like good ol’ avo on toast. Good Times aren’t content to just whack any old avo on some Wonder White, though. Their Avocado Toast comes with organic tomatoes, a light and lovely whipped lemon feta, mint, poached egg, and black Turkish chilli – the latter imparting a sweet smokiness and a kick that turns this oft-prepared brunch classic up a notch. Good Times’ Pastrami Benedict is another classic with a twist. Using ‘Meatsmith’ beef pastrami on a potato waffle, with poached eggs, brown butter hollandaise, dill pickle, and sauerkraut, the Pastrami Benedict gives this breakfast go-to an Eastern European meets New York facelift. Definitely one worth checking out.

Moving on from breakfast to lunch, this is where Good Times Milk Bar really shines. Towering burgers packed full of fresh, local ingredients have a menu all of their own, with offerings spanning from classic to veg friendly, to seafood loving, and back again. There really is something for everyone on the burger menu – which makes Good Times Milk Bar the perfect venue for catch ups with friends or a casual end of year lunch for the office Christmas party.

The Classic burger lives up to it’s name. A weighty grilled beef patty comes accompanied by American cheese – of course -, lettuce, dill pickle, ketchup, American mustard, and a housemade GTMB sauce. The is the burger lovers burger. But, if you’re looking for something a little different, you can’t go past the Seaside burger. The Seaside serves up chunky beer battered fish, with wasabi mushy peas for a kick, Kewpie mayo, Good-slaw, and house sauce. But, don’t worry, the team and Good Times have your herbivorous pals covered with The Green burger. The Green will fill you up in good conscience with a Green pea, quinoa & kale patty topped with tomato, green hummus, dill pickle, lettuce, and green-goodness sauce. Nourishing, filling, and good for you and the planet. What’s not to love?

If you’re doing your best to keep it clean during the beachwear season, then you can rest assured that the folk at Good Times Milk Bar will serve you up a delicious dish without having to call cheat day. The Duck Poke bowl will keep you full and satisfied with healthy ingredients that won’t leave you feeling like you’ve missed out on indulging. Roast duck pieces are served with antioxidant rich black rice, good fats courtesy of avocado and edamame, cucumber, seaweed salad, radish, nori crisps, and wasabi kewpie for a little creamy luxury. This was my choice when I dropped in to visit and it was so filling and delicious – and I’m usually a straight-to-fried-goodness girl.

For those visiting Good Times Milk Bar with littles in tow, they also have a great kids menu chock full of your favourites: dippy eggs, hotcakes (with popping candy!), mini burgers, and babycinos for the cosmopolitan bub.

With a great menu, a fantastic space for canine companions, and plenty of options for kids, the whole family can have a good time at Good Times Milk Bar.
