Glass Merchants cafe and bar in Balaclava relaunches, cementing itself as a go-to brunch spot.
A wise person once said, “breakfast should be served all day”. Okay, I may have made that up, but we all know it’s true. Fortunately for late risers like myself, Glass Merchants agrees, serving up an amazing menu of familiar breakfast staples as well as on-trend twists on the classics all day. And, like any Melbourne establishment worth it’s salt, the coffee is rich, strong, and flowing from open to close.
Having lived in Balaclava since I was a teenager, I’ve watched this amazing and creative little town grow up around me, and with me. I can even remember when the factory actually sold glass – but I might be giving away my age there! I’ve seen cafes come, and cafes go, but something tells me that, with their unique and exciting take on dining and cafe culture, Glass Merchants is here to stay.
Nestled just off vibrant Carlisle Street in a converted glass factory, Glass Merchants cafe and bar is fast becoming Balaclava’s go-to spot for breakfast, brunch, and more. In case the all-day breakfast isn’t enough to grab your interest, there’s also an amazing selection of mouth-watering burgers and sandwiches, and healthy protein packed smoothies for the health conscious among us.
With a grungy industrial feel and an eclectic and beautifully curated art collection lining the walls, it’s the perfect setting for a casual lunch or a fancy event. Offering up an adaptable and stylish space that easily transitions from day to night, Glass Merchants is an ideal setting for a celebration, a fashion show, or a launch party.
Tuesday’s relaunch sees Melbourne’s social scene come out to celebrate, with bubbles and frozé flowing. The energy is electric and exciting, and the food is fantastic. Mini pork sliders are devoured by the tray full by the eager party-goers, and the selection of drinks on offer perfectly complements the inspired menu.
The outdoor area serves as a perfect spot for a glass of wine on this warm night, and the vivid mural gives the venue an edgy feel and perfectly connects to Balaclava’s heart as a hub for street art. It’s a fantastic environment to relax, have a drink, and chat with friends new and old.
No doubt that Glass Merchants’ commitment to quality, unique approach to dining, and fantastic location will see it become a popular pit stop for those who love cafe culture and great food. In fact, as someone who is lucky enough to live within walking distance, I can definitely see Glass Merchants becoming my new ‘local’.
If you love good food, great coffee, and fantastic service then you should definitely check out this quirky little gem.
