Melbourne foodies, get ready for a culinary journey through Latin America. Alejandro Saravia, the renowned Executive Chef and founding Director of the Renascence Group, has announced two new Morena venues in Melbourne’s CBD. Following the success of Morena Sydney, Saravia is set to introduce his elevated Latin American dining experience to Melbourne at the prestigious 80 Collins precinct.
Two Distinct Dining Experiences
Located on Little Collins Street, Morena Melbourne will offer two distinct dining experiences. The first is Morena Restaurant, a formal dining setting that takes diners on a culinary journey through Latin America. Here, guests can choose between a la carte options and a Chef’s selection menu, all curated to showcase the rich and diverse flavours of the region.
The second venue, Morena Barra, provides an all-day dining experience centred around a lively central bar. Inspired by the vibrant cantinas found throughout Latin America, Morena Barra promises a more casual yet equally authentic dining experience.
A Taste of Latin America
Both menus at Morena Melbourne will feature dishes from Saravia’s native Peru, as well as Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, and Brazil. The beverage options will emphasise Spanish and South American wines, along with signature cocktails that highlight Latin American spirits. Saravia’s commitment to authenticity is evident in his sourcing of ingredients, working directly with farmers, suppliers, and producers from both Victoria and Latin America.
Saravia’s Impact on Australian Cuisine
Alejandro Saravia is credited with introducing Peruvian cuisine to Australia. Since 2006, he has shared his passion for Latin American food across the country through various restaurants. His philosophy of using seasonal produce and authentic ingredients has set a new standard for Latin American dining in Australia.
Excitement Builds for Morena Melbourne
The announcement of their Melbourne outpost has generated excitement in the local food scene. Saravia expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture, saying, “After the outstanding reception to Sydney, I am so excited to be bringing the Morena concept to life in the heart of Melbourne. With Farmer’s Daughters around the corner, Morena will continue to deliver warm hospitality and exciting culinary experiences in Melbourne’s CBD.”
He added, “For me, opening Morena in Melbourne represents a full circle of my time in this industry in Australia. Since arriving in 2006, I have been working to shine a light on the unique flavours and hospitality of Latin America. Here in my hometown of Melbourne, I am excited to bring this to life in two unique venue offerings.”
The new venues will undoubtedly enhance the city’s vibrant dining scene, offering a unique opportunity to explore the rich culinary heritage of Latin America. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to Melbourne’s CBD.
