Celebrating 20 Years of Taste at Pure South Dining

/ 11 June 2024

Pure South Dining, a renowned Melbourne establishment on Southbank, is marking its 20th anniversary with an exquisite dinner series titled ‘A Chef’s Tour of Tasmania’.

This limited-edition event kicks off on June 28, inviting patrons to embark on a gastronomic journey through Tasmania without leaving the city.

A Pioneer of Farm-to-Table Dining

Since its inception in 2004, Pure South Dining has set itself apart by its unwavering commitment to farm-to-table dining. The restaurant has become a conduit for Tasmania’s freshest produce, directly connecting Melburnians with the island’s farmers, fishermen, and artisans. Founded by Philip Kennedy, Pure South was ahead of its time with a provenance-driven philosophy, cultivating relationships forged on mutual respect and friendship.

From rare-breed livestock from Mount Gnomon Farm to fresh oysters from Lease 65, the ingredients tell a story of sustainability and quality. These longstanding partnerships are a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to bringing the best of Tasmania to its Melbourne patrons.

A Culinary Journey Through Tasmania

The ‘A Chef’s Tour of Tasmania’ series is a celebration of these relationships. Every Friday and Saturday night until the end of July, guests can enjoy a six-course degustation designed by Executive Chef David Hall. Each dish highlights a key ingredient sourced from one of Pure South’s suppliers. Ingredients such as King Island Lobster and Pyengana Dairy’s renowned products are central to the menu, each crafted from the freshest ingredients available on the day.

Adding a unique touch to the dining experience, the series will feature occasional visits from the producers and winemakers themselves, offering diners a rare opportunity to engage with the stories behind their meal.

Looking Forward to the Next Chapter

Co-Owner Peter Leary and his team are focused on preserving the restaurant’s rich heritage while continuing to introduce innovative dining experiences. “We are thrilled to celebrate two decades of Pure South Dining by inviting guests to join us and indulge in a journey showcasing our invaluable relationships with our suppliers,” says Leary.

The 20th anniversary series is not just a reflection of the past but a reaffirmation of Pure South Dining’s commitment to its community and to the art of dining that respects both tradition and innovation.

Tickets for this landmark dining experience are available now, with options for matching Tassie wines to enhance the meal.
