Burwood Brickworks Welcomes Baked Wonder: A Playful Pastry Paradise

Eat, Melbourne / 8 July 2024

Melbourne’s renowned café culture has found a new home at Burwood Brickworks. Nestled 19 kilometres east of the CBD, Baked Wonder is the latest addition to the rooftop, offering a vibrant and creative twist on classic pastries. This rooftop bakehouse overlooks the stunning Dandenong Ranges, providing a picturesque backdrop for a culinary adventure.

A Unique Concept in a Community Setting

Baked Wonder, located in the light-filled Glasshouse, is more than just a bakery. It sits amidst a thriving rooftop garden, managed in collaboration with Cultivating Community. This shared space promotes social connection, making it a perfect spot for locals to gather and enjoy the fresh offerings.

Innovative Pastries and Decadent Drinks

At Baked Wonder, traditional pastries receive a modern makeover. The menu boasts a variety of sweet and savoury delights. Highlights include the ‘Nutty’, a pastry filled with honey caramel and roasted pecans and almonds, and the ‘Crookie’, a delightful croissant-cookie hybrid. Savoury options like the tomato, Vegemite, and cheese scrolls and sausage rolls from the renowned G. McBean Family Butcher are also available. The signature ‘Pink’ croissant, bursting with raspberry and strawberry filling, is set to become a crowd favourite.

The drink menu is equally enticing. An all-pink La Marzocco coffee machine serves up classic milky coffees, while adventurous options include the warming seven-spice ‘Wonder Chai’, a decadent house hot chocolate, and the refreshing pink ‘Wonder Iced Tea’, made with Yarra Valley Tea leaves.

Family-Friendly Fun and Mini Treats

Baked Wonder caters to visitors of all ages with mini versions of bakery classics such as croissants, brownies, cookies, and sausage rolls. Kids will love the ‘Bébéchinos’ and strawberry milk, ensuring a delightful experience for the whole family.

Plant-Based Options and Sustainable Practices

For those seeking plant-based options, the menu includes the ‘Wonder Roll’ made with broccoli tapenade and garnished with pickled radish from the rooftop garden. Baked Wonder also encourages sustainability, offering a 50-cent discount on all drinks for those using keep cups and implementing the Returnr system for reusable packaging.

A Welcoming Space for All

With both indoor and alfresco seating, Baked Wonder provides a light-filled spot for catching up with friends and family. Whether it’s a Saturday morning croissant run or a sweet treat stop, the bakery caters to every need. Accessibility is easy via elevator or stairs from the Burwood Brickworks car park, and furry friends are also welcome.
