Everything With Tequila at Barrio Cellar

Barrio Cellar is Sydney’s newest basement bar in the CBD. The team behind Barrio Chino and Fei Jai have sprawled into the city with their new venue just off Martin Place on Elizabeth Street; the old Spice Cellar. Neon lights demanding “Everything With Tequila” and a dark staircase allure you downstairs where you will find a sleek, architecturally pleasing bar. Geometric designs fill the bar from the lights to the furniture.  After-work drinkers fill the venue drinking cocktails and ordering tacos.
The Mexican inspired bar is creating a stir with their tequila-based take on classic drinks. The Naked Lady cocktail caught our attention. A light pink drink with strawberry infused Agudo Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, lemon, and bitters is served with a delicate floating flower.

If you’re after something a little heavier and smoky, we recommend the Calitos Campfire $21, with Bruxo no. 1 Mezcal, Money Shoulder Scotch, lemon juice, agave and peach. It’s served wiith a smoked salt rim.
Tommy’s Margaritas from Barrio are a hit, especially as they use fresh lime with the El Jimador Reposado and organic agave nectar. Yum!

With the background of two popular restaurants, the food here matches our high expectations. Tasty and sophisticated bar “snacks” accompany the Mexican drinks list. You can try the Barrio corn spoons with chipotle, feta and lime, which are light and refreshing. Their fried green olives with dulche blue cheese dip are an interesting variation to the usually smooth olives. We recommend their tacos, especially this Hongo, which is a confit Portobello mushroom with corn, salsa and queso. All of these options are the perfect one-hand bar snacks.

$10 Tommy’s Margaritas, $5 draft beer, 2 for 1 bubbles by the glass.
Monday: All burgers and tortas are $10 (Hamburguesa, Barro Cubano, Carne Asada, Street Style Dog)
Tuesday: All tacos are $3 (All meat selection, all seafood and mushroom too)
Wednesday: $1 Wing Wednesdays (in all 5 flavours)
Thursday: $30 bottle of bubbles
Friday/Sat: Djs
