Staying at the Ace Hotel in New York makes you feel the way you do when your favourite song comes on the jukebox. You can’t help but jive and jam and smile. So it goes at this music centric, boutique arts hotel. Nestled in the heart of Flatiron, you will truly feel the pulse of New York City at this lofty, spacious and social location.
Upon arrival you are greeted with huge smiles and charming NY accents from the stylish and unique looking hotel staff. Dark decor and Art Deco furniture make the lobby and bar area a popular hang out for Ace guests, generally a mix of young music types, entrepreneurs and creatives. The hotel bar is also one of the most frequented spots in Flatiron for delicious cocktails, smooth electronic tunes and taste bud pleasing plates of bar food. Not too mention you also have the The John Dory Oyster Bar and The Breslin gastro pub restaurant right there at your fingertips.
The rooms are refined and stylish with a minimalist chrome palette. Small details make each room shine, a vintage vinyl player, an acoustic guitar, sweet smelling floral apothecary soap. The bed and the pillows are simply divine so you can sink deep and dream sweet. Art and collaboration is in everything they do at the Ace Hotel. We visited during a collaboration with a local perfurmerie, Le Labo, so now our entire stay is captured in this sweet grapefruit smell that came with the room key.
On street level they have partnered up with a number of crafty arts stores with designer knick knacks and fashion that also showcase the work of their current artist in residence.
A stones throw away from the ever-illuminated Time Square, you are amidst New York’s happening nightlife. Live bait is a character filled dive bar with cracking tap beer and cocktails. Order the salty eggplant chips for some crunchy contentment and the blackened salmon salad. It’s dark and decked out with all sorts of weird sea shanty inspired paraphernalia.
The ace hotel is luxurious and refined which makes the soul of the place so effervescent and all encompassing. If you like music, a contemporary take on the classics and friendly personalities, treat yourself and stay at The Ace.
