Tropicana Coogee

Cafes, Sydney / 10 July 2010
Breakfast with the girls is a bit of an institution round these parts.  That weekend mid morning catch-up on our collective debauchery is a highlight of the week.
The venue is an all-important choice.  Required to cater for varying levels of hangover/health kick and serve with minimum stress or distraction so that the tales of dating, careers and general play can flow uninterrupted across the table.
Tropicana on Coogee Bay Road is always a pretty safe bet.  With quirky 60s style, Austin Powers-esque decor, smiley Irish waitresses, an extensive mixture of light and stodgy breakfasts and essentially good coffee.
They also have free wi-fi for those all important facebook photo albums being discussed on the iPhone.
This morning’s choice for me was somewhere between an attempted healthy option mixed with grease and carb cravings from the faint remnants of a red wine hangover.
A vegetarian big breakfast.  Spinach, mushroom, poached eggs, avocado, hash brown, tomato and of course baked beans.  Served with multigrain brown toast.
It definitely hit the spot, as I sat full, chilled and content in the Coogee winter sunshine. My strong Soy Latte in hand I sat back and enjoyed the luscious, detailed stories of my flatmate’s antics on her recent Fijian holiday.
(And for those of you who know the place – yes, the waitress here really does have a tattoo of pink lips on her neck.)
