Reader’s and Writer’s Rejoice, Sydney Writers’ Festival is Back!

Australia’s most beloved celebration of writing and ideas, the Sydney Writers’ Festival is back again from Monday, April 26–Sunday, May 2. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Within Reach’ with a program filled with more than 130 different events hosted across town.

Writing and reading lovers are invited to explore every side to literature with free and paid events throughout the festival.

The Art of the Interview

Guest Curator and author Michael Robotham speaks with one of Australia’s best interviewers, Andrew Denton, and asks what makes a great interview and how to get the best out of a subject.

How Mushrooms Can Save Your Life

Faced with the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, award-winning author Krissy Kneen was forced to rethink her writing practice and took an unexpected deep dive into the world of mushrooms. In this Curiosity Lecture, she makes the case for why mycologists are the cheeriest scientists and delves into how mycelium might become the saviour of our planet and humankind.

Alison Lester: Through the Seasons 

Thirty years after the publication of Magic Beach, Alison Lester remains one of the most popular and beloved children’s writers, beguiling children everywhere with her worlds – real and imaginary – and enchanting stories. In this special event, Alison shares stories, draws one of her favourite characters live and reads from her new picture book, Sing Me the Summer.
