Make a list and check it twice, it’s time to get your gifts, tree, ham and more at Sydney’s Christmas markets.
In our books, Christmas really is the best time of the year. The smell of pine trees and gingerbread, teamed with the sounds of Michael Buble and taste of glazed ham are enough to make us all a little giddy. That being said, we can think of no better way of getting into the Christmas spirit then with a visit to one of Sydney’s best Christmas markets.
You may be familiar with the weekly farmers markets hosted at Carriageworks each Saturday. In celebration of the festive season they’ll be hosting a special Christmas edition, bringing together 115+ producers and providores on Saturday 23rd December. With a focus on food and produce, you’ll find everything from hams to lamb and seafood, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses and Christmas puddings. Adding to this will also food themed gift stalls with unique gifting of ceramics, cookbooks, aprons and more.

The Grounds certainly knows how to throw an event, which is why you’ll notice not just Christmas markets at this iconic hub but much more. The Christmas Markets themselves will run from Monday 18th – Wednesday 20th December 10am – 7pm and Thursday 21st – Sunday 24th December from 9am -3:30pm. Here you’ll find everything from wicker handbags, natural skincare, jewellery and more. There’s even going to be charity gift wrapping stations!
On top of this, they have also introduced various masterclasses and courses. Get hands on with classes in styling and florals or a Christmas cake decorating class. To entertain and educate the little ones, they’ll also be hosting festive workshops with Christmas cupcake and cookie decorating and pizza making.

For one evening only, Sydney Living Museums is set to transform into a Christmas wonderland, as they host their very own Christmas Fare at the Hyde Park Barracks Museum. For one night only on Thursday 14th December, feast your eyes on over 40+ stalls featuring some of Sydney’s finest artisan producers, makers and ready-to-eat gourmet food vendors. You’ll also be treated to a pop-up boutique bar, teamed with live entertainment and complimentary Museum entry.

Nothing screams Australian Christmas louder than fresh seafood come Christmas day. The Sydney Fish Market has hosted its 36-hour seafood marathon for over 20 years, and this year looks set to be bigger than ever. Early birds can get to the markets from 5am on Saturday 23rd to purchase their seafood spread, with the sale wrapping up at 5pm on Christmas eve.

Gin lovers rejoice! With the summer months lending themselves more to a cooling concoction than a steamy eggnog, the guys at The Barber Shop have hopped on the festive bandwagon, hosting a Christmas Gin Market. You can expect to find plenty of gin, teamed with Four Pillars’ limited edition Christmas special. You can also nab some gin treats, such as gin marmalade and chocolates, whilst learning about the wonderful world of gin from the distillers themselves.

The Market Tales is a unique boutique Sydney market event drawing inspiring from merchants and makers, quality pop up restauranteurs and local musical talents. Explore and buy products from some of Sydney’s freshest creatives as well as from the Precincts strong existing retailers. The Market Tales journey is led by the aromas of quality local and well known restaurants, talented local musicians, workshops and over 50 stalls of treasures in fashion, accessories, homewares, kids and vintage memorabilia

Cambridge Markets will run its first ever Twilight Christmas Market in Watsons Bay on Wednesday December 20 from 3pm to 9pm. With over 120+ stalls on offer, take your pick from a range of delights including boutique homewares, fashion, design, art, craft, gourmet goods, children’s wear and plenty of delicious food. This special twilight market will also come complete with Christmas lights, carols and plenty of Christmas spirit. Santa may even make an appearance at this stunning location right on Sydney Harbour.

There to get you into the festive spirit is the Chatswood Mall Christmas Markets, running for two weeks during December. The mall on Victoria Avenue is set to transform with rows of stalls selling everything from jewellery, candles, soaps, leather handbags and handwoven fair trade goods. The markets will also feature live music plus a range of delicious eats. Think truffle burgers, ice cream sandwiches, charcuterie and cheeses and more.

Now in its second year, 50+ stallholders will have their original works for sale at the Glebe Artisan Christmas Markets. Here you can purchase a range of Christmas goodies, including ceramics, fashion, clothing, toys, jewellery, plants and handmade items.
