Spice House at Spice Alley, Kensington Street

Restaurants, Sydney / 14 November 2016

Book a private dining room at the Spice House for your next Spice Alley catch up.

For those looking to leave Sydney behind and enter the bustling streets of Southeast Asia, it’s hard to go past Chippendale’s Spice Alley, situated in the heart of Kensington Street. This culturally profuse alleyway hosts hawker-style diners with cuisines stemming from countries including Vietnam, China, Japan and Indonesia. Bowls of steaming hot Vietnamese pho, ramen, dumplings and plates of noodles are served daily under a ceiling of glowing lanterns. Any night of the week, the vibe is electric.
It attracts the masses for several reasons.  For one, the food is finger licken’ delicious. It’s also affordable ($2 dumplings!). On top of  that, they are BYO, with no corkage fee. Best part of all, patrons are not just restricted to wine. You can bring along beers, ciders, hard liquor, you name it.
What fewer people realise is that upstairs from these vendors are three interconnected private dining rooms, known as the Spice House. Each room comes with a rich personality, laced with Asian street art and quirky design features. Whether it is a sit down boardroom lunch, birthday party, team building workshop or engagement party, the Spice House makes for the perfect go-to event space.

The Golden Gai is the largest of the three rooms, seating a maximum of 25 guests. It’s perfect for a casual banquet or gathering. Lan Kwai Fong is the second room available. Mimicking the cosy bars found in Hong Kong, this intimate room is perfect for those smaller gatherings, accommodating up to 10 people. Watch the lively Kensington Street bustle below from your private window in the Khao San Road room. This private dining room makes for ideal place to host a close get together, seating up to 10 people.

In partnership with Spice Alley vendors, charges for each private room start at $25 per head. Private waitstaff can be arranged for an additional fee.
We can think of nothing better than grabbing of group of mates and hiring one of these unique spaces. With a bustling nightlife below you simply pick out some food, bring some bottles of wine. From there, it’s all about feasting, drinking and above all being merry!
