Sounds of the Terrace returns to the MCA’s epic rooftop this summer thanks to Young Henry’s.
Nothing says summer like live Aussie music, modern art and a stunning harbour side view from The Rocks. Sounds of the Terrace is on show again at the Museum of Contemporary throughout summer, but it is being given some Newtown spunk.
Every summer since 2012, Sounds of the Terrace has reimagined the MCA’s Sculpture Terrace as part of the gallery’s Lights on Later showcase. The monthly event unites free live music with drinks and nibbles. From November 2017 the event will be given a hit of Newtown hipster. This year the MCA has partnered with Young Henry’s brewers to give Sounds of the Terrace a distinct edge from the inner-west.
Young Henry’s owners Richard Adamson and Oscar McMahon’s passion for supporting local music is well-known. So much so that the team have even called the stereo one of the most important pieces of their brewing equipment. Since opening their Newtown brewery in 2012, Young Henry’s have hosted a range of gigs promoting everyone from You Am I to the Sydney Symphony.
This summer, Sounds of the Terrace will pair the Young Henry’s local brews with emerging local musical talent. While enjoying a mid-week beverage from the selection of Young Henry’s classics including the Newtowner Aussie pale ale, Natural Lager and Summer Hop Ale, two dynamic performers will take to the stage. Already making waves for the appreciation of 1980s synth, music trop E for Echo and dreamy singer songwriter Matilda will perform for the Wednesday crowds.
Make no mistake Sounds of the Terrace is no ordinary beer garden affair. Open for the first Wednesday of every month until the end of summer, the display of Aussie music and brews will take full advantage of the MCA’s prime Circular Quay location.
