Gingergirl Pop-up, Sydney

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 1 February 2017

When Gingergirl met Sydney, a love story at The Star.

We don’t mean to alarm you, but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Haven’t made plans? Well what  better way to woo your lover this year than with a trip to the latest pop-up restaurant to reach Sydney, Gingergirl. Run by the legendary team behind Melbourne’s Gingerboy, Gingergirl follows three hugely successful pop-ups at The Star over the last year. You may remember Luke Nguyen’s Street Food, Sokyo Ramen by Chase Kojima, and Singapore Hawker Style.
Gingergirl
Teage Ezard, one of The Star’s signature chefs is serving up dishes for the summer, offering an extraordinary new Asian hawker-style street food dining experience. The menu features a range of different flavours and feasts, with an offbeat Southeast Asian touch. Spinning off a few Gingerboy classics, the menu features cold noodle salad with squid, drunken chicken, sesame, paw paw and bandit dressing, yellow curry of blue eye, lychee and mango salad. If that doesn’t tantalise you, the Wagyu brisket with peanut tamarind caramel and hot and sour coconut salad sure will. We’re here to assure you, everyone’s going to be a Ginger lover after this visit.

The menu is complemented by delicious non-alcoholic beverages ($8-10). Though alcohol is an old friend, taking a walk on the green side might not be a bad idea. Their mocktails offer a range of interesting flavours, including refreshing green bubble tea punch, Vietnamese espresso, and the ‘Tropic Thunder” slushie. Thirst quenching with coconut water, ginger, watermelon, passionfruit and lime, Tropic Thunder is expected to become an all-time favourite.
Gingergirl
Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week until the end of March 2017, Gingergirl celebrates Ezard’s love of contemporary Asian cuisine and experimenting with new flavours.
