Frida and Diego Exhibition, Art Gallery NSW

Sydney / 29 June 2016

The NSW Art Galley invite you to meet Frida and Diego

In an exclusive showcase, the Art Galley of NSW is exhibiting works from revered Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her husband, Diego Rivera. Renowned for her self portraits, Kahlo’s artworks are emblematic of Mexican nationality and indigenous traditions. They also delve uncompromisingly into the female experience.
The exhibition, ‘Frida and Diego’, offers insights into the pair’s tumultuous lives. 33 paintings from the impressive collection of Jacques and Natasha Gelman are on display. Each artwork features Kahlo’s infamously intense stare, furrowed brow and braided hair.
Patrons can also expect to see over 50 photographs by shutterbugs Edward Weston, Lola Alvarez Bravo and Guillermo Kahlo. Wonderfully intimate, these black and white prints trace select moments from Kahlo’s birth to her early death at 47 years old.

There will be art appreciation seminars. And be sure to join in the Mexican paper flower making workshops and guided tours.
This display represents a rare opportunity to see masterpieces by the two leading figures of 20th-century Mexican art. Come along and get acquainted with Frida and Diego!
The exhibition runs until 9th October. But reader’s take note! Some sessions are already booked out. So make sure to book timed tickets online to avoid disappointment.
