The Grill at The Four, Four in Hand, Paddington

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 2 August 2017

Things are heating up at Paddington favourite, Four in Hand, launching The Grill at The Four.

The locally loved Four in Hand Hotel has been revived with a brand new menu in the dining room. The Grill at The Four’s Executive Chef, John Collins (The Royal), has prided his new menu around fire and the grill, where he is cooking everything from seafood to meat and even delicious vegetables. Walking into the beautiful dining room, it marks the perfect backdrop for all seasons, an idilic setting for those long weekend lunches and special occasions.

If you don’t own a barbecue but still yearn for those charred and fiery flavours, this Paddington gem is the answer to your prayers. Their entrées vary between Duck Liver Parfait ($18), Ravioli with Goat’s Cheese in Mushroom broth ($26) and their signature entrée, the grilled Hawksberry River Squid with Romesco ($18). This dish was plate-licking good! The baby squid came out whole and sliced, char-grilled and drizzled with that delicious romesco, yum.

For mains, the menu is a steak lovers dream with six different items. But steak isn’t your only option. You’ll find seafood varying from their fancy 1kg Live Rock Lobster with garlic and lemon ($220), Whole Market Fish ($MP), Ocean Trout and Wild Barramundi Fillets ($35). The Barossa Chicken Breast ($34), the Flinders Island Lamb Rack ($42) and the Suckling Pig to share ($110) are all worthy contenders to sit back and take that long-lunch to the next level.
Lamb
Beef lovers, tune in. The Grill at the Four is your safe haven and you have a showcase of prime cuts to choose from. The Rump Cap 300g, Eye Fillet 200g, New York Striploin 300g, Sirloin Wagyu 200g, Rib Eye 450g and the mother of all meats, the Tomahawk 1.2kg+ are all here for the choosing. The 200g Sirloin caught our attention at $90, but it had the qualifications to match the hefty price tag. Shiro kin full blood Wagyu 9+ reads quite enticingly and boy it delivered. The fatty Wagyu goodness was melt-in-your-mouth deliciousness and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had.

You can choose from an array of sauces and butters to go with all of the mains and also separate sides to personalise and accompany the proteins. There’s Duck Fat Crispy Chats ($12), a Chopped Kale Salad with pecans and raisins and also our favourite Charred Leeks with Hazelnut and Capers ($12) to name just a few.

Spread
If you’re not full by now, kudos to you. But there is dessert. After resting your stomach and sipping on an digestif, dessert seems like the right option after you’ve had just enough time to digest lunch. There’s Bread and Butter Pudding, Pavlova and a fancy Banana Split that are good to share; they are all quite rich ($16).
