Miss Chu

[ 4 ] December 7, 2009 |

Last week I discovered an amazing new little food gem as I was walking up William St on the way home from the city. It’s called Miss Chu and is basically a hole in the wall decorated with fairy lights and small lanterns. Think tuck shop or school canteen and replace the soggy meat pies with amazing Vietnamese food. A few mismatched chairs and tables line the pavement for people to sit and eat once they’ve placed their order.

Servings a fairly small but rather inexpensive, I had the vermicelli salad bowl with spicy prawns and it was $9.50. They had steamed dumplings which were about $2.50 for 3 pieces that looked really yummy. Miss Chu has long provided catering food but about 4 months ago they opened this kitchen to share their delights. The food is fresh, tasty and quick perfect for a snappy lunch time bite or grabbing something after work. This is definitely a place to visit for the food not the service, like a school canteen you do need to line up to place your order, and be sure to make it snappy the staff are rather impatient. That said, they’re open till 9pm and I will definately be heading back there soon to sample the fresh Vietnamese rice paper rolls and steamed dumplings.
