Ships Ahoy!
Twilight Regatta at Rushcutters Bay
On Wednesday I donned my very special sailors cap and boarded a yacht for a spot of twilight sailing at Rushcutters Bay. The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) is literally 10 minutes from my house; I run past there at least 3 times a week and some how this little gem had slipped under my radar!
Like most Sydney-siders I embrace the harbour during summer and am never one to shy away from sipping bubbles on a boat should the opportunity present itself. Unfortunately, and like most women in Sydney in their 20-somethings I haven’t been fortunate enough to accomodate the financial side of acquiring such experiences on a regular basis. So when a client of mine invited me and a few colleagues to join him for a twilight regatta I jumped at the chance.
I had visions of sipping Veuve Clicquot, nibbling cheese and relaxing with the wind blowing through my hair. A more realistic depiction involved a very wet bottom, multiple bruises and a brief bout of nausea.
We didn’t win the regatta but as my dad used to say “it doesn’t matter if you win or lose as long as you look good” and we did! I did get that glass…ok bottle (and not Veuve) of bubbles at the end of the race as we sipped into the sunset.
There are a number of sailing places around Sydney’s eastern suburbs and I recommend finding yourself a silver fox sugar daddy who can whisk you away for a twilight sail.
Sugar daddy’s not your thing…there’s a white board in the club where you can write your name and number down for people to call you if they need more hands on the boat. In brackets next to your name you can list your credentials. I am proud to say I can now boast “has some experience”.
