Sculptures By The Sea Presents The 25th Bondi Exhibition

Cool Sh*t, Play, Sydney / 11 October 2023

Sculptures by the Sea is back offering a free outdoor sculpture exhibition along a 2km coastal pathway from Bondi to Tamarama.

Embrace the essence of Sydney as the 25th edition of Sculpture by the Sea graces the iconic Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk from the 20th of October to the 6th of November 2023. This exhibition, renowned as one of Australia’s premier cultural events and the world’s largest open-air sculpture showcase, beckons you to experience its artistic wonders.

Prepare to be captivated by over 100 extraordinary sculptures and artworks along the breathtaking 2km coastal journey, as an estimated 450,000 individuals are expected to embark on this 18-day artistic odyssey.

This special 25th edition pays homage to the roots of the exhibition, featuring works by six visionary artists who were part of the inaugural Sculpture by the Sea in 1997. Among these luminaries are Paul Bacon, Stephen King, Michael Le Grand, John Petrie, James Rogers, and Margarita Sampson. Notable long-term collaborators with the exhibition, such as Philip Spelman and Ron Gomboc, have now earned their place in the esteemed Double Decade Club, celebrating 20 years of participation. Meanwhile, artists Lucy Barker and Ayako Saito proudly join the Decade Club.

This milestone event boasts an international flavour with acclaimed Chinese artists Chen Wenling and Shen Lieyi displaying their creations alongside a dozen leading artists from Japan. In a continued spirit of artistic camaraderie, Ukrainian artist Nazar Bilyk makes his debut appearance at Bondi.

As a part of the 25th-anniversary festivities, a beloved favourite among visitors, the 2006 masterpiece ‘Hot with A Chance of a Late Storm’ by the renowned art collective Glue Society + James Dive, will make a triumphant return to Tamarama Beach, reigniting fond memories for art enthusiasts.

What’s fantastic about Sculptures by the Sea is that it’s entirely free, requiring only a weekend gathering with friends to explore and enjoy. Find out more here.
