Extra Virgin Fine Foods Paella Cooking Class

[ 1 ] June 13, 2012 |

On a rainy Saturday afternoon last weekend, a group of hungry food bloggers entered the cosy deli space of the Crows Nest restaurant Extra Virgin Fine Foods. We were here for one thing, and one thing only  - paella. After a brief introduction and tour by owner Mauricio before donning aprons and entering the kitchen.

For the next hour or so, we seared, sizzled, simmered and stirred our way the perfect Spanish paella. The fruits of our labour boor beautiful chewy rice, packed with flavours of paprika, saffron, seafood and smokey chorizo, topped with mussels, calamari, big beautiful prawns and spicy sausage. After taking off our metaphorical chefs’ chats, we sat down at the table to a lovely spread which included sangria, croquetas de queso (cheese croquettes) and tortilla con boquerones y mojama (tortilla with anchovies and cured tuna). Check out the photos!

Classes cost $95 per person and are manageable regardless of cooking skills. Whether you’re a masterchef or a kitchen newbie, chef Vincent will guide you through the entire process and demonstrate each step in the recipe. Classes run on a Saturday from 3pm – 5pm, you can book online via their website.
