Foley Lane

[ 0 ] June 20, 2012 |

Foley Lane….Why does that ring a bell? Oh that’s right , it’s the dodgy back lane behind Oxford St where Shady Pines Saloon lives. It’s also where I go to sweat out the booze I consume at Shady Pines at Bikram Yoga. So, I’ve got my fitness regime and alcohol consumption all conveniently located on the same strip, all I need now is some decent food. I may as well build a cardboard box house and live on the Foley Lane because it has everything I need.

Sleeping outside in winter sounds a bit shit but the new bar, aptly named Foley Lane, is far from it. You’ll find it on the corner of Foley Lane and Taylor Square, behind the toothless bogans swigging VB at the Oxford Hotel. Its former life as a hair salon has been gutted and transformed into a Spanish style bar with really good food. Inspired by travels to Spain the two young chaps responsible for Foley Lane, Nathan and Julian, wanted to bring authentic Spanish drinking culture back to Sydney in a relaxed and casual environment

The art deco style building has a bar to match, high seating and an approachable menu thanks to Head Chef Nelson, formally of Mamasita in Melbourne. Reasonably priced dishes are designed to be shared or ordered individually to create your own mini banquet. Favourites include the Morcilla (a type of sausage made especially for their kitchen) poached egg, mahon and truffle oil and the braised WA octopus with lime mayo.

For dessert make sure you try the catalan style mint flan and throw me a dollar or two if you find me sleeping out front on my yoga mat.
