Burnt Orange Chatswood

Cafes, Eat, Sydney / 18 November 2015

Housed amongst many fashion greats in an upscale shopping mall, is a new stylish cafe. It’s safe to say that this cafe called Burnt Orange is in fact, the new black.
Tucked around a corner on level one Chatswood Chase, Burnt Orange stands tall in between popular stores like Camilla, Saba and Cue. It’s surrounded by a massive leafy canopy and has the sun shining down on it through the glass ceiling above. You can almost forget you are in the midst of a busy pre-Christmas shopping centre in this little garden oasis.

This is the second venue for the owners. The original Burnt Orange can be found in Mosman and is just as popular amongst the locals. Burnt Orange 2.0 may not have the harbour views or beautiful sandstone setting of it’s Mosman sibling but it exudes the same sophistication, warmth and amazing flavours. It certainly sets the bench for shopping centre cafes and means you’ll never again have to slum it at Maccas in the food court.

The cafe serves up hearty breakfasts, that stray from the typical assortment of cafe fair. Sunny weather calls for some cold pressed watermelon juice to refresh our palettes before our eggs benedict arrives. On this occasion we play it safe with a side of smoked salmon served on toasted brioche. For those feeling inspired to try something new order it with Alaskan king crab instead. The hollandaise is creamy and the yolk spills onto the delicate brioche. It’s all nicely complimented by some tangy feta.

The Breakfast Board is a good choice for those who like a little bit of everything. It consists of house-smoked trout, avocado, halloumi, a soft boiled egg, toast and two dips – one a rich capsicum, the other a mild basil. Each item compliments each other well and both dishes we order are good for sharing.

Burnt Orange is also open for lunch after 11:45am and has two options for high tea after 2:30pm. For a traditional high tea complete with homemade scones, jam and cream and other sweet and savoury treats. But to make your afternoon a little more interesting they also offer a sparkling high tea, with a glass of Veuve Tailhan sparkling wine. It also comes with tea, coffee and a specially crafted array of finger foods and goodies. It’s time to add a splash of orange to your life!
