The Almighty Barbeque

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 25 February 2015

BBQs are in our blood. As Australians there is nothing we love more than sizzling a snag on the hot plate during summer. Our love of barbecued meat runs deep and shows no discrimination when it comes to origin. In Forest Gump Bubba mentioned 21 different ways to enjoy shrimp. We’ve listed five places you can enjoy barbecued meat in Sydney. But hey, who said this was a competition?

Suminoya

This Japanese barbecue offers a friendly experience with a generous offer. Grab a group of friends for the ‘premium buffet’ and you will have a small (and incredible hot) coal bbq put on your table. Use it to cook your own meat and seafood. Sounds terrible right, who wants to cook their own food when they dine out? Well the pay off is that you can order whatever you want for a full hour. If its on the menu you can order it and as many serves as you want. The only proviso is you can’t have lots of leftovers or they will charge you for the wastage. That means you can ask for 10 serves of Salmon Sashimi, 10 serves of Yukke and 10 serves of Wagyu beef Harami just for the entree.

Casual American style bbq that is perfectly indulgent. Available at the Oxford Tavern on Saturday and Sunday from midday until they sell out (note: it doesn’t take long) Black Betty offers a Dino Rib that you absolutely have to sink your chompers into. The pulled pork and slaw burger is deliciously messy, there’s no way to eat this bad boy without getting covered in pork and cabbage but it’s worth it!

Sydney Madang

There are a number of Korean barbecues that have opened in Sydney in the last 10 years. Sydney Madang is one of the best. Tucked away in Sydney’s CBD Madang can be hard to find, but rewards those willing to seek it out. Definitely try the pancake, grilled eel and any of the hot-pots.
