World Class Bartender Semi Finals

The first round of the World Class Bartender of the Year competition happened Sunday 22nd January, a gorgeous sunny day out on the harbour. With a record number of entrants, 133 bartenders from across the country battled it out in a summer themed cocktail competition. Each bartender was tasked with creating a beverage that embodied one of 3 categories: Seasonal Cocktail, Punch and Gentleman’s Cocktail.

They had to use only the finest ingredients and luxury spirits including either  Ketel One vodka, Tanqueray No. Ten gin or The Singleton of Glen Ord Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The best three cocktails from each category were then recreated by the bartender on the Sydney Glass Island boat where the public were invited to vote on their favourite.

Assessed on appearance, experience and taste one winner from each category was awarded.

Fred Siggins from Kodiak Club (Melbourne)

Perryn Collier from The Laneway (Brisbane)

Winner of Gentleman’s Cocktail

Phil Gandevia from Eau de Vie (Sydney)

These winners will now go on to the National Finals later this year to battle it out for the title of Australia’s Best Bartender and have a chance to represent the country in the World Class Global Final. The next round is in Melbourne on Sunday 20th May…watch this space.
